Photosensitive epilepsy causes adverse reactions to specific light patterns and static visuals, yet limited public awareness means that dangerous triggers are still frequently embedded in everyday environments — from architectural lighting and advertising screens to digital interfaces. The lack of sensitivity in design perpetuates a form of visual exclusion, making certain spaces inaccessible or even harmful for those affected.
This virtual reality project recreates some of the most common triggering locations, presented in two contrasting versions: a “safe” state and a “hazardous” state. By navigating between the two, viewers are confronted with the responsibility of design choices and the consequences they carry for inclusion, accessibility, and safety. The project also embodies a paradox: its immersive experience cannot be fully accessed by the very people it represents (including myself), underlining the persistent gap between representation and lived experience.
